a complete shock to me as 1) i was nearly 50 and 2) my symptoms had been treated as fitness injuries up until numbness in my trunk. i was still teaching regular fitness classes at the time but a few weeks after diagnosis i knew that this wasn’t ideal as mentally & physically i had changed. for a few weeks i moped about the house trying to stay motivated to do the exercises the physio had prescribed for me and then it was after a visit to my parents i was passing the village hall & i saw a sign for daytime pilates and yoga classes. i knew amanda the instructor as we had both worked in some of the big clubs in leeds, the village, esporta and david lloyds. i contacted her and asked if she would be willing to take me as i didn’t want to disrupt the class or hold it back as i knew my needs would be different to the other members of the group. she said she was more than happy for me to join. so with butterflies in my tum, i attended my first pilates class as a participant. i need not have worried i loved it. amanda made me feel so welcome and anything i couldn’t do i just sat it out, i didn’t feel uncomfortable or “different” after one of the classes amanda & i started chatting and i told her how the class had increased my confidence and it felt amazing to be part of a group again, something i wasn’t sure i would be able to enjoy after being told i had ms. it was at this time the idea of a specific class for people with conditions was born. amanda is passionate about helping people and i’m not quite ready to become a lady of leisure just yet so we knew that together we could offer something truly unique to anybody that felt they weren’t able to exercise in a group situation anymore. between us we have one instructor who has the training to design
